University professorship for ‘Economics with a focus on experimental economic research’ (pay grade W 3 LBesO)

We are looking for a candidate with an outstanding track record in experimental economic research and an international network. Research achievements must be demonstrated by relevant publications in leading international journals. Success in acquiring competitive third-party funding, preferably from the DFG or comparable funding organisations abroad, as well as relevant international experience are required.

The professorship comes with the position of Director of the Essen Laboratory for Experimental Economics (elfe). The successful candidate will have the opportunity to actively shape the highly dynamic research environment for experimental and empirical health economics as a member of the CINCH health economics research centre. The professorship also has a pivotal role in the integration of business administration and economics at the University of Duisburg-Essen. Accordingly, cooperation with other working groups within the faculty, for example with the House of Energy, Climate and Finance (HECF) – Markets, Systems and Decisions, and with the Mercator School of Management, is desired. The faculty also cooperates very closely with the Essen-based RWI – Leibniz Institute for Economic Research and, as part of the University Alliance Ruhr, with the neighbouring universities in Bochum and Dortmund. Involvement in doctoral student training within the framework of the Ruhr Graduate School in Economics is desired.

The successful candidate will be expected to teach courses on behavioural economics and economic policy in the bachelor’s and master’s programmes in economics. Classes in the bachelor’s programme are to be held in German, while either English or German may be used in the master’s programme. Involvement in courses on economics in the core area of the bachelor’s programme and teacher training programmes is also expected. Applicants who do not have sufficient German language skills are expected to acquire them within the first three years after their appointment.

The formal requirements are based on Section 36 of the Higher Education Act of North Rhine-Westphalia (Hochschulgesetz NRW).
