Dr. Dr. rer. pol. h.c. Henning Osthues-Albrecht
On Nov. 20, 2017, the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics of the University of Duisburg-Essen awarded an honorary doctorate to Dr. Osthues-Albrecht, former Director of Sparkasse Essen and chairman of the University Council of Duisburg-Essen. The award is in recognition of his services to the University and in particular to the Faculty of Business Administration.

Prof. Dr. Dr. rer. pol. h.c. Axel A. Weber
On June 29, 2007, the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics of the University of Duisburg-Essen awarded an honorary doctorate to the President of the Bundesbank, Prof. Dr. Axel A. Weber. The award is in recognition of his services to empirical economic research, the internationalisation of political economy research and to the role of academia in providing advice to political agencies.

At a celebratory event held on May 24, 2007, in the surroundings of the Philharmonie Essen, the Faculty of Business Administration and Economics of the University of Duisburg-Essen awarded Prof. Dr. Rainer Ludewig an honorary doctorate in economics in recognition of his services in the expansion and intensification of empirical economic research.
